Slidecasts

One of my hobbies is video editing. I used to video my students working on projects, at camp, assemblies, really any activity throughout the year. My graduating gift to them (K-6 school where I taught grade 6) was a video montage at the end of the year. They loved seeing how their hair changed, how they grew up, how goofy they were and so on…

I use a lot of PP when I teach. In creating a slidecast, some of the tools were like video editing tools. You can time the audio to play the length of the slide and it’s so simple. These Slidecasts look great. It is a PP with an audio file. Upload slides to slideshare, sync the slides with the audio using the synchronization tool. Anytime you view the slides, the audio is played from its location. Excellent! Another web 2.o tool!

Hello, I read your blog. I really liked your visually documenting the grade over the year as a gift to the students. What a great idea!

So the program you are using is called Slideshare? I was attempting to create a slideshow last eve and was able to this, well kinda of. I was unable to get the music to come along with the show…

The pictures I am using were retireved from the internet. I guess I’ll have to get into cameras now as well and start uploading stuff with meaning to myself.

I’ve been experimenting with Slideshare too and it is great. Synchronizing the sound files is a bit of a pain. I’ve used a proprietary product called Articulate which works fine but is comparatively pricey. The more recent versions of Powerpoint allow you to narrate your presentation and edit as you go. If you save your Powerpoints as PPS files they can’t be altered and then you can attach them to a blog or wiki. There are a few things that MS does well.
