Blogger Beware!

I was at school today, computer on of course, when I was invited to exchange Skype details with some Lilou, with a very provocative looking avatar. This really threw me for a loop. The picture was of an attractive female, but I can’t help think of those theft identity commercials for CitiBank. You know, the ones where they dub a girl’s voice over the mouthing of this great big husky dude? Anyway, aliases are essential when communicating via the web, that’s for sure. Just for the record, no details were exchanged!

Damn, you found me out, that was my provocative picture….I sure am cute….lol. That is one of the things you have to watch out for on SKYPE. people can find your information and then want to exchange it with you. That is a great reason to use and alias!

Interesting. I wouldn’t have thought of this initially. I guess that it is exactly that, that we need to safeguard the kids against. I’ve had one unknown blog contact. “Manny?”

You know what they say…beware of the hairy-armed lady. To me it makes sense but is rather sad in a way that we have to hide behind aliases. It makes this great internet we’re using seem unfriendly and scary. You’d think there would be safe-places on the net where we wouldn’t need to worry so much about our information and identity. There’s got to be a way to get the Wild Wild West out of the World Wide Web.

Question: For those who are expert at say “hacking” and stuff, even with an alias aren’t we just fooling ourselves? But for the Grace of God go we… Big Brother is watching and do we really want to know how often? And if we did, what could we do about it anyhoo?

Secuity should always be our number one priority when using the internet.
